Youth in tune with African music
Warwickshire County Council’s strong global links have given young people in the Warwick area the opportunity to be part of an international music exchange.
The county council’s Youth and Community Service hosted a visit from Alpha Bah, the Chair of the youth association in Bo, Sierra Leone.
Mr Bah has been visiting Warwick district through One World Link, an organisation which maintains a friendship link with Bo district in Sierra Leone where he works as a city councillor and coordinator of 18 youth groups.
He said: "One of our priorities is musical exchange between the two ends, Bo, in Sierra Leone and Warwick district in the UK, which I believe will create an indelible print in our bilateral relationship as young people develop technical skills at a local, national and continental level."
Mr Bah visited a number of county council youth clubs around the district as well as the Indestructible Music Club at the Band Factory in Leamington, which is run by Hybrid:arts and the county council’s Youth and Community Service. He exchanged recordings by young people in Sierra Leone for the CDs which had been produced by bands and MCs from the Warwick district.
