Fantasy theme for summer reading challenge
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge for 4 - 12-year-olds will take the fantasy theme of ‘Quest Seekers’.
Coordinated by the County Council’s Library Service, the Summer Reading Challenge has been running for several years in Warwickshire and encourages schoolchildren to carry on reading through the summer holidays. They can join the challenge for free at any Warwickshire library and receive stickers and other incentives. Those who read a total of six books over the summer will be awarded a medal and certificate.
The Quest Seekers Summer Reading Challenge starts on Monday 13th July and continues through to Saturday 5th September.
Service Development Officer Stella Thebridge said: “Children taking part can read any books they like but the fantasy theme gives them an opportunity to focus on titles about dragons, wizards, knights and adventure quests.”
Stella said arts and crafts activities were being organised to support the Summer Reading Challenge, including puppet and monster-making workshops and a chance for children to make their own ‘adventure kit’. Pre-school children would be able to join in, too, and work towards a special Quest Seekers Book Crawl certificate.
