Wonderful Wednesdays in Bidford-on-Avon

Warwickshire County Council’s Heritage Education will be calling in at Bidford-on-Avon Library every Wednesday during the summer holidays with a treasure trove of artefacts and objects to amaze and inspire!

Insect and animal specimens, fossils and fascinating photographs from the archives of the County Record Office are just a few examples of what will be on display for families to explore.

The events will all take part on the Museum on the Move bus – so also a great opportunity to explore the current exhibition on the Museum bus, ‘Our Games Story’

Discover what it was like to be a Roman soldier, how people went on their holidays in the past and the lengths bees go to when making honey. There’s also plenty of fun craft activities involved in each session – children can get creative and make everything from magic animal mobiles, Punch and Judy hand puppets, a rubber band car and a model dinosaur! Heritage Education’s friendly helpers will be on hand to help children get inspired by the objects and discover the history behind the weekly themes.

Rebecca Williams, Audience Development Officer for Community at Heritage Education said: “This is our biggest programme yet of summer family activities – 60 events across ten venues all around Warwickshire. We’re very much looking forward to travelling around bringing some great craft activities and museum objects for children and their families’ right across the county to enjoy.”

The events will be taking place every Wednesday from 22nd July – 26th August 2009 from 2.30 – 4.30pm. Roaming with the Romans will be the first event. There is no need to book a place, just drop in. The activity costs £2.50 per child or £1 for 5s and under. All ages are welcome, but children aged 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
