Garden fundraiser for care home

Older people at a Whitnash care home are enjoying more time in the garden, thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff, residents and the home’s League of Friends.

Dozens of people have been helping to raise £1,000 to buy new garden furniture for Warwickshire County Council’s Lawns Residential Care Home. Part of the funding was collected at a summer fete held at the home on Sunday.

The Lawns is appropriately named with rolling grass and trees surrounding the home in Whitnash.

Manager, Paul Gaskell said that the garden plays an important part in the life of the home and is very popular with the 35 residents.

“We hope to raise £1000. We have already bought new parasols and with the new furniture residents will be able to really enjoy the beautiful garden,” he said.

Visitors to the Lawns summer fete enjoyed cream teas and various stalls and youngsters took part in a paper chase.

The event was supported by the Lawns League of Friends which has been raising money for the home for more than 14 years.

Roz Compton, of The League of Friends, who helped organise the event said: “I have worked at The Lawns, and have been involved with The League of Friends, for over 12 years.  Hopefully the money raised today will go a long way towards getting the new garden furniture.”
