‘Wacky Wheelers’ youth festival comes to Shipston
Young people are being invited to an action-packed youth festival in Shipston-on-Stour this weekend.
‘X-Fest’ was setup by a group of young people from the Shipston youth club - run by Warwickshire County Council – called the Wacky Wheels Committee. Working with youth worker Katie Corby and PCSO Guy Blacklock, they organise events to ensure young people like them have something to do.
The free event at Shipston High School will run on Saturday 18 July between 10am and 4pm, and will have a range of activities such as dance workshops, nitro car racing, historical battle re-enactments, a bucking bronco and various competitions including skating and radio controlled cars.
Warwickshire Youth and Community Service’s Rural Youth Bus will also be attending with youth workers and other professionals offering information and guidance on a number of issues such as sexual health, drugs and alcohol to anyone that needs it.
Katie Corby, youth worker with Warwickshire Youth and Community Service, said: “The group involved with X-Fest really have worked tremendously hard to offer something for everyone. It originally started out as a small skate boarding competition but has literally snowballed in to a fantastic youth festival for everyone to enjoy.
“It also highlights how young people really want to get involved in doing something positive for their community, and we believe this will be a big success.”
Young people must bring their own safety equipment if they intend to enter the skate competition.
