Total eclipse of the art
The results of a competition organised by Warwickshire County Museum Service have been simply out of this world.
Nearly 200 people entered the ‘Once in a Blue Moon’ Art Competition to find out what the Moon means to people in Warwickshire – in pictures! Prizes including a theatre voucher, book tokens and luminous stars, were awarded to four winners across four age groups at a special ceremony at Warwickshire Museum in Market Place, Warwick.
The winners were:
0 – 7 yrs Elliot Caldwell-Barker from Bedworth.
8 – 11 yrs Rebecca Winch from Nuneaton.
12 – 17 yrs Rebecca Garner from Rugby.
18+ yrs Denise Hagon from Stratford-upon-Avon.
There were also 9 Highly Commended Certificates across the 4 groups.
Simon Robson, Head of Communities and Well-being at Warwickshire County Council presented the prizes and said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to the competition and the incredibly high standard of entries. I would like to congratulate our winners and thank them for being a part of this very exciting project to mark 40 years since the first man walked on the Moon.”
The competition is one of a host of events throughout the summer looking at all things lunar, including a summer exhibition “Once in a Blue Moon”.
Don’t miss the special exhibitions, children’s workshops and lots of local memories of the Moon landing, forty years ago. Plus, at the end of the month, some very special exhibits will be arriving in Warwick … a number of Moon rock and soil samples from the lunar landings.
