Young people get snap happy!
Sixteen young people from Nuneaton will be spending their summer getting artistic with film, photography and the arts at a creative arts summer school.
The summer school is being run by Warwickshire County Council’s Extended Services in partnership with Compton Verney. The activities will run between Monday 20 July and Friday 24 July 2009 from 10am to 3pm. Schools involved include Alderman Smith School, Etone Community School and Technology College, Hartshill School and Queen Elizabeth School.
During the week the young people will be exploring a range of artistic techniques; including dance, film and photography to help them to discover their own artistic talents.
Workshops will include creating dance pieces, taking photos, exploring and investigating the exhibition, working with digital cameras and DVD recorders and working with mixed media to create a final piece of artwork.
The young people will also be working with artist, Alicja Rogalska and dance group Motionhouse Dance Theatre to explore surrealist artwork in Compton Verney’s exhibition, ‘Surrealism and Contemporary Art’: Subversive Spaces. At the end of the week they will exhibit their own artwork at Compton Verney and perform their dance in the Adam Hall.
Study Support Officer, Carolyn Lloyd said: “The summer scheme is a great way for the young people to raise their aspirations and develop their artistic skills in a creative and fun environment.
"With experienced professionals on hand to share artistic techniques and experiences, the young people should be able to use real life experiences to create their very own showpiece.”
All of the work presented will be accredited through the Arts Award scheme and participants will be given the chance to gain a prestigious Arts Bronze Award.
