Steam and Saddles in Mancetter

Warwickshire County Council’s Heritage Education department will be making a stop at Mancetter Children’s Centre to teach children a thing or two about travel.

A special workshop called Steam and Saddles from 2.30pm-4.30pm on Tuesday 4th August will explore the many different ways people travelled to their holidays in the past and children will get to make their own rubber band car.

Steam and Saddles is part of a weekly programme of summer activities being organised by the County Council’s Heritage Education department.

Rebecca Williams, from Warwickshire County Council’s Heritage Education, said: “We would urge families in Mancetter to come and join the fun - you never know how far your elastic band car might propel you!”

On Tuesday 11th August, children are invited to ‘Model-a-saurus’ where they will journey through time to investigate fossils, learn about dinosaurs in Jurassic Britain and make model dinosaurs to take home. The following weeks include Beside the Seaside with Punch and Judy and Brilliant Bees where you can take bee hand puppets home.

Rebecca Williams added: “These events are all about bringing everything from fossils to fascinating photographs to life and we have a treasure trove of objects and artefacts to amaze and inspire.”

Heritage Education’s friendly helpers will be on hand to help children get inspired by the objects and discover the history behind the weekly themes.

There is no need to book a place, just drop in. The activity costs £2.50 per child or £1 for 5s and under. All ages are welcome, but children aged 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
