County schools lead the way on Extended Services
100% of Warwickshire schools are now offering access to extended services - a year ahead of Government targets!
Over the past few years Warwickshire County Councils Extended Services team have been working with schools across the county to help extend the services they offer.
With the support of schools and extended services cluster co-ordinators, and working in partnership with existing local private or voluntary sector providers, a wide range of activities for pupils, their families and the wider county is now accessible via 250 Warwickshire schools.
Services include:
* Either offering or signposting to high quality ‘wrap around’ childcare available at least 8am – 6pm, term time and school holidays, including breakfast clubs and after school activities
* A varied menu of study support. Including activities such as sport, arts, drama, music, dance, homework clubs and learning a foreign language through children’s university and kids college.
* Parenting support opportunities including family learning and parent information sessions
* Swift and easy referral to a range of specialist services for pupils and families
Opening up school facilities such as ICT, sports and arts facilities for use by the wider community, including adult learning
Extended Services Strategy Officer, Carol Bunyard said:
“Many people still don’t know what extended services offer or even realise that it’s a service for everyone, but if you are a parent accessing before and after school clubs or summer holiday activities or a resident taking an adult learning class at a Warwickshire school, then you are using the services.
The Government have stated that by 2010 extended services need to be on offer in all schools across the country. In Warwickshire we are already offering extended services in all of our schools a year ahead of the Government’s target, which shows just how committed we are to ensuring that all residents have access to extended services in their area.”
