Connexions offer Post-16 students results day help

Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire will be on hand with expert advice when students get their exam results later this month (Thursday 20 August).

Personal Advisers based at every secondary school and Further Education college in the county – as well as Connexions One Stop Shops in town centre offices – will be able to offer information to young people who are considering their next steps, such as moving on to further or higher education, training or employment.

Guidance for those collecting their results for A-Level, AS-Level or vocational qualifications will be available on the day.

Course vacancies and finance issues are just some of the topics covered, as well as information for those who have done better or worse than they had expected.

Lynda Pinks from Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire, said: “If students don’t quite get the results they wanted, the most important thing to remember is not to panic.

“Sometimes just missing the grade doesn’t mean losing a place at university – even if the results do significantly alter someone’s original plans, we can help them find alternatives.

“On results day, it is best to collect as much information as possible and ask for advice from professionals if they want to. This will then help them make an informed decision about the route they would like to take.”

Every Connexions office has access to the UCAS clearing system and vacancy details, as well as individual course information and prospectuses.

Personal Advisers can contact admissions tutors and help with applications. They will also have information from local schools and colleges about the courses available for those looking to change their plans or to re-take exams.

Connexions staff will also have details of employment options, including work-based learning, apprenticeships and part-time study.

Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire is run by CSWP Ltd, a membership of organisations including Warwickshire County Council, Coventry City Council and the Learning & Skills Council amongst others.
