Civic Trust Awards are open to entries
Local people are being urged to back this year’s Civic Trust Awards, which could go to anything from a café to a church or hospital.
Cllr Peter Fowler, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration has urged people to back this year’s awards.
He said: “I would like to see as many entries as possible for Warwickshire. The Civic Trust Awards is one of the oldest built environment award schemes in Europe.
"From cafes and churches to housing and hospitals, the Civic Trust has rewarded more than 5,500 buildings which have made a difference to local people and their communities by providing the design and facilities which have made better places for people.
“They recognise the best in the built environment, from architecture to planning, townscape to infrastructure – but they are about so much more than this. They promote the concept that development should be for the benefit of people – those who use it, and those who just pass by.
“Let’s make sure Warwickshire gets it share of entries in this year.”
All entries to the Civic Trust Awards 2010 should be made online via http://www.civictrustawards.org.uk
The website caries full instructions for entrants and allows the submission of photographs and supporting documents, which can be uploaded. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 16th September 2009.
One of the previous success stories of the Civic Awards is the Abbey Green District Centre Enhancement in Nuneaton.
Applications are invited from Architects and Developers; however, members of the public are also able to nominate successful local schemes for entry to the Awards.
Whether it is a building, public space or public art project, please email info@civictrustawards.org.uk and the Awards team will contact the designer to encourage them to make an entry. Applications are encouraged from completed schemes that have particularly improved the quality of life for the local community.
The scheme is also interested in attracting local people to act as Community Advisors on our volunteer assessment teams. Your role will be to canvass and represent the views of the people who use or see the building as part of their environment.
If you would like to lend your support as a volunteer, sponsor or simply make a donation, please contact Malcolm Hankey on mhankey@civictrustawards.org.uk or call (01925) 273170.
