Retiring Care Workers have lots to sing and dance about
Two care workers who are retiring after more than 25 years working with adults with learning disabilities in Rugby will be spending their free time entertaining others.
Warwickshire County Council’s Bloxham Day Services held a farewell party to say goodbye to both workers.
Peter Dixon and Lin Martin plan to enjoy more time following their hobbies with Rugby Theatre Singers, and Appalachian Dancers.
Peter worked as a teacher for more than 20 years at Bilton High School in Rugby and for the past 5 years at Bloxham Day Service.
“I’ve loved working at Bloxham. It’s been so rewarding and I’ve learned so much about the people I work with, after 30 years in teaching it’s been a fantastic way to end my career.” he said.
For 25 years Peter was Director of Rugby Theatre Singers and plans to rejoin the group as a singer.
Meanwhile Lin who has worked at Bloxham Day Services for 20 years has been involved in Morris Dancing and Appalachian Dancing and is keen to dedicate more time to both during her retirement.
“I’ve enjoyed working at Bloxham immensely,” she said. “I’ve seen a lot of changes and it’s been great to be involved in developing the service. I am looking forward to spending time doing lots of travelling with my husband Pete.”
Chris McGaffney, Deputy Manager, said: “It is sad to say goodbye to two excellent members of staff, they will be greatly missed and we wish them well for the future.”
Bloxham Day Service is part of Warwickshire County Council’s Community Support Services, providing support to adults with learning disabilities.
