Bus improvements for Upper Quinton

A call from local people in south Warwickshire villages for an improved bus service has resulted in action and a new route is now underway.

A local bus service is now to better serve the village of Upper Quinton after a call for help from residents and local councillors.

In March of this year Warwickshire County Council carried out a countywide consultation with all Parish Councils asking them what bus service improvements they would like to see.

As a result a letter was received with a petition, from Cllr Mike Brain representing Quinton Parish Council. Cllr Brain is the Stratford District Council Community Services Portfolio Holder as well as a parish councillor.

The letter referred to problems in Upper Quinton especially in relation to residents having difficulties accessing the newly opened medical centre situated on Goose Lane in Lower Quinton between the two villages.

The call for an improved service also then won the support of fellow local councillor, Cllr Izzi Seccombe, the county councillor for the division.

The county council looked at the possibility of rerouting the 21/22 bus service operated by Johnsons Excelbus and installing new bus stops near to the medical centre.

These improvements have now been implemented.

Cllr Seccombe said: “This is an excellent example of parish, district and county councils all working together. I am delighted that the county council has found a way of addressing the problem of people accessing the new medical centre, particularly from Upper Quinton. The rerouting of the bus service and the new bus stops will be of tremendous help.”

Cllr Alan Cockburn, the county council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “We have had a good response from parishes to the consultation exercise. It’s great to see that partnership working between the County Council and the local parish council can bring benefits like this to the people of Quinton.”

Cllr Mike Brain added: "I am very pleased to see, that the strong partnership working between all levels of governance and residents in south Warwickshire has resulted in a positive outcome for all the residents of Upper Quinton and the surrounding villages who use the newly opened medical centre in Quinton.

"Not only will this service provide much easier access to the medical centre, but will also provide an extended service to other towns and villages, which local residents in Upper Quinton have long awaited for.”
