Easier to register birth or bereavement

Warwickshire County Council’s Registration Services have made it easier for people to register life events such as births and deaths.

In the past, a birth or death in Warwickshire had to be registered in the local area where the event occurred. But families can now register such an event at any of the county’s registration offices.

The legal preliminaries to a civil marriage also no longer have to be registered in the area where the person getting married lives, but can be registered at any of the main Register Offices in the county, those being Atherstone, Nuneaton, Rugby, Warwick and Stratford.

Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Customers, Workforce and Partnerships, Councillor Heather Timms said: “Ease of access is essential for people using registration services, especially in times of bereavement.

"This change in service gives residents more flexibility when registering a birth, death or marriage, which in turn should improve their experience of using our services.”

Registration and Coroners Service Manager at Warwickshire County Council, Polly Dickinson, said: “We know that it can be difficult for some people to travel to other parts of the county, especially when they have recently given birth or suffered a bereavement.

"By providing a more flexible service to our residents, it makes registering a birth, death or marriage much easier.”
