Meet your ancestors

Following the rising number of people wishing to trace their family's history, Warwickshire County Council has organised a range of workshops in September and October to suit all levels of experience.

Programmes such as the BBC’s ‘Who do you think you are’, have contributed to the interest in family trees and 70 per cent of the people who use Warwickshire County Record Office do so to research their family history.

So, whether it’s your first foray into family history, or you are on track to become a genealogy genius, there will be something on offer for you this autumn.

“Absolute Beginners” are invited to an introduction to the local and national sources available at the Record Office for researching your family tree on Monday 21 September.  This course runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm and costs £5.00.

Those of you who have a shoebox of old photographs at home may be interested in “Photos in Family History” run by specialist family historian Jennifer Cranfield.  This computer based workshop will show you how to create an online family album that can be enjoyed by relatives and friends.  This course runs from 9.15am to 12.15pm on Saturday 10 October and costs £12.00.

Those who have already taken the first steps in researching their family history may benefit from “Family History: Next Steps” on Monday 26 October, from 2pm to 4pm.  This workshop will help you learn how to continue researching your family tree using the sources available at the County Record Office, including Parish Records, court records, wills and inventories.  This workshop costs £5.00.

Rowan Fisher, Learning and Outreach Officer for Warwickshire County Council, said: “Family historians of all abilities are encouraged to attend these fascinating workshops and find out more about their ancestral heritage.”

All workshops take place at Warwickshire County Record Office, Priory Park, off Cape Road, Warwick.  Booking in advance is recommended by calling 01926 738959 (Tuesday to Saturday).
