Over 50 and living in Warwickshire? Last chance to sign up for free events
The last few tickets for two free events for the over 50s are up for grabs.
Warwickshire residents are urged to call now for the last remaining places for National Older People’s Week events at Bedworth Civic Hall on Wednesday 30 September and the Hilton Hotel, Warwick, on Thursday 1 October.
Belly dancing, indoor bowls, craft activities and a free lunch are just some of the treats in store from 10am -3pm. The aim of the events is to celebrate life over 50 and make people aware of the opportunities available to them.
So, if you are aged over 50 and live in Warwickshire, please book your place by telephoning 01926 746 995 by Tuesday 22 September. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Transport is also available on request.
Older People’s Week in Warwickshire coincides with National Older People’s Day on Oct 1 and the central theme is ‘Full of Life’. Warwickshire County Council and Warwickshire Older People’s Forum have organised the two events to celebrate the opportunities, achievements, and aspirations of older people and their contribution to society.
More than 20 exhibitors will give taster sessions, demonstrations and information ranging from belly dancing and indoor bowls, pottery to painting and gardening. A wide range of organisations will also be there ranging from the National Trust to U3A (University of the Third Age). Delegates can also indulge in a free lunch and enjoy watching a drama from Moveable Feast Drama Company who will perform short scenes about personalisation for older people.
The events will be opened by two speakers, John Bolton for the Department of Health and Anne Clarke for Warwickshire County Council, who will speak to delegates about ‘personalisation’ and how it will enable older people to have greater choice and control over their own care and support.
The events have been organised in partnership with Warwickshire County Council’s Carer and Customer First Team, the PHILLIS team and Warwickshire Older People’s Forums.
Dr Graeme Betts, Strategic Director of Adult, Health and Community Services at Warwickshire County Council, said: “The events are all about celebrating later life and making older people aware of the opportunities and services available to them. They are an ideal way to find out more about personalisation and the benefits that it will bring to older people in Warwickshire.”
