Children’s favourite book characters to launch festival at Rugby Library

Children’s favourite characters, The Gruffalo and Wally (of where’s Wally), will be at Rugby Library on Saturday 26 September for a family fun day to launch the Fantastic Fun with Words Festival.

Warwickshire County Council’s Library service has organised the fun day at Rugby which runs from 10.30 to 3.30pm on Saturday 26 September.

Children will get the chance to enjoy entertainment from authors and story tellers as well as meeting Wally and the Gruffalo. The event will also celebrate the 20th birthday of Elmer the Elephant.

The fun will start with a ceremonial cake cutting at 10.45am to launch the Fantastic Fun with Words Festival which spans 45 events across Rugby, North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth from 26 September to 3 October. Schools from the Rugby area will also be taking part in literary activities.

Warwickshire County Council’s Library Service has secured a grant from the Arts Council to make the reading and writing festival possible and this year’s festival is even bigger and better than before.

Kimberly Fetherston, Children’s Librarian for Warwickshire County Council, said: “The festival is aimed at all ages and will see the whole community sharing a love of books and above all else, having fantastic fun with words.”

Tickets for the fun day at Rugby Library cost £2.50 per child and £1 for the under 5s. Admission is free for accompanying adults and children under 8 must be accompanied.
