County’s history is just a click away
A free course to help you research the county’s history from your own computer is being run by Warwickshire County Council this weekend.
Staff at the Record Office are keen to raise awareness of their online catalogue, Warwickshire’s Past Unlocked, and are offering a free introductory course on how to use the catalogue.
The course is on Saturday 26 September and runs from 10am to 11am and will be held at Warwickshire County Record Office, Priory Park, off Cape Road, Warwick.
Warwickshire County Record Office holds documents relating to the history of Warwickshire dating from the 12th century. They include photographs, parish records, school records and many more.
Many of them are of use to family historians, local historians and house historians. Most of our documents can be viewed by members of the public by visiting Warwickshire County Record Office during our normal opening hours.
However, many of the catalogues can also be accessed from the comfort of your own home via the internet (http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/archivesunlocked). These include catalogues for parish records, school records, the Warwickshire Quarter Sessions collection and the catalogues of Warwickshire hospital records and the Warwickshire Petty Sessions.
Rowan Fisher, from Warwickshire County Record Office, said: “The aim of this workshop is to help people make the most of their time in the Record Office by giving them the tools to search our catalogues before they come to visit to look at the documents. We are also offering this particular course on a Saturday so that those who work during the week have the chance to come.”
Booking in advance is recommended by calling 01926 738959 (Tuesday to Saturday). For opening times and other information, visit http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/countyrecordoffice
