Schools serve the best of British
Warwickshire County Council cooks are putting the ‘oo’ into food to celebrate British Food Fortnight as pupils sit down to a special themed lunch this week.
28 September 2009
Students from schools around the county will be enjoying some traditional tucker from the County Caterers on Thursday 1 October.
British banger casserole or cheddar cheese and potato pie, served with jacket potatoes or crusty bread and a vegetable accompaniment will be dished up for the main course. For dessert pupils will enjoy apple crumble with custard or kitchen garden (carrot) cookies washed down with apple juice or water.
British Food Fortnight, established in 2002 is a national celebration of regional foods and drinks and the health benefits and pleasures of eating quality, fresh, seasonal and regionally distinct produce.
County Caterers’ Development Manager, Lindsay Higgins said: “We’re happy to be supporting British Food Fortnight again with our themed lunch. It’s a chance for the County Caterers to celebrate as we are sourcing more and more regional produce for our menus to provide nutritious meals to the county’s young people.”
County Caterers, Warwickshire County Council’s catering arm, provides school meals to nearly every primary and almost half the secondary schools in the county. For more information about the service, visit http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/schoolmeals or call 01926 742060.
