Mobility scooter theft outrage

A leading Warwickshire politician has today expressed his outrage at the recent theft of a mobility scooter from one of Warwickshire County Council’s Country Parks.

Cllr Chris Saint, the county council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Housing, has described the theft of the scooter from Kingsbury Water Park in North Warwickshire as disgraceful.

He has today appealed for anyone with information about the theft to contact the police.

The theft happened on September 29, depriving people with mobility problems with one of the free scooters at Kingsbury Water Park.

A man described as shaven headed with tattoos on his forearms wearing a HSS blue fleece and dark green baseball cap, carrying a large rucksack rented out the scooter in the normal way, and said it was a surprise for his father. However he failed to return it at the allotted time and after the park could not locate him on the phone numbers given, the Police were called.

The mobility scooter in question is a dark red ‘Shoprider’ scooter. The crime no is: N/09/16066. Incident no: 300/29/9/09.

Cllr Saint said: “This is disgraceful, these scooters give people with mobility problems a chance to enjoy Kingsbury Water Park. I urge anyone with any information, perhaps if someone has recently been offered a cheap mobility scooter for sale, to get in touch with Coleshill Police.

“It’s a devastating blow to the park, these scooters are expensive and we cannot afford to replace them. What makes this crime even more upsetting is that the scooters are often donated to us from relatives of people who have used the park but have sadly passed away. They enable people with impaired mobility to be able to enjoy the park with their relatives and friends and we know how much they are appreciated by those who borrow them on a regular basis.”
