A problem shared is a problem halved…
Young people in Nuneaton and Bedworth are encouraging others to ‘talk to someone’ if they have a problem, thanks to funding from Warwickshire Crimebeat.
Two new projects, managed by the Intervention Team at Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme, have launched and will focus on tackling issues such as bullying or domestic abuse – while reducing anti-social behaviour.
The first was created by a 12-year-old from Nuneaton who developed a drinks bottle and ‘furry bugs’ with the message ‘a problem shared is a problem halved is a problem solved’ printed on them. The merchandise will be distributed to 150 students at the George Eliot School in Nuneaton.
While the second project involves a large banner and magnetic memo boards urging young people to ‘tell, tell, tell’ rather than bottle up anything they might be worrying about. These will be available to students at Croft Junior School in Nuneaton.
Zoe Hutchinson, Inclusion Support Worker for Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme, said: “It is great to see young people helping other young people when it comes to problem sharing, as it can be difficult for them to come forward and talk to someone.
“Parents, friends, teachers or other professionals are great starting points and they can often help solve any concerns.”
Crimebeat is funded by the High Sheriff of Warwickshire and is supported by the private sector. It is managed by Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme and aims to reduce crime, the fear of crime and to create safer communities. This initiative enables and empowers young people to make a difference and also encourages them to feel part of their community.
Warwickshire Crimebeat is continually looking for groups of young people to apply for funding. For more information contact Mark Bolton, Operations Development Manager, on 02476 754174 or email markbolton@warwickshire.gov.uk.
