Autumn activities for young people in Studley
Studley Youth and Community Centre is offering young people a packed programme of activities during the autumn term.
At present, young people aged 12 to 19 can attend the after-school club which is open on Monday between 4.30pm and 6.30pm offering homework support, cooking activities to promote healthy eating - as well as indoor sports, table tennis, pool and a Wii games console.
A wide range of activities are also provided on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm where young people can take part in sporting events, community fundraising, competitions, ICT access, cooking activities, arts and crafts. After October half term, the centre will also be open on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9pm.
It follows a busy spring/summer schedule for the High Street youth centre, run by Warwickshire County Council’s Youth and Community Service, with young people joining Henley and Alcester young people on several exciting programmes.
Seven Studley young people took part in ‘Get behind that wheel!’ - an 11-week pre-learner driver project at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon that encouraged them to develop skills to drive safely, whilst discouraging them from illegal or dangerous driving.
Fifteen young people from three centres attended ‘Climb 2 Survive!’ - an eight-week project held at Creation Indoor Climbing Centre in Moseley, Birmingham, while a 10-week sailing project helped participants with personal development.
A three-week daily summer activity programme was delivered at the County’s Outdoor Education Centre at Kingsbury Water Park through funding from Positive Activities for Young People.
Recently, Studley Youth and Community Centre has been refurbished to improve facilities and now provides a brand new computer room, games room facility and a brighter look - as well as an opportunity for local residents to hire the hall.
Changes have been made to the centre to create a separate area for young women, to provide somewhere that they can come and meet with friends, take part in activities and receive advice from youth workers.
Anna Stowe, District Youth and Community Worker for Warwickshire County Council, said: “Over the last few months, youth workers and young people have been busy raising funds for the refurbishment and they have worked incredibly hard on improving their centre and its facilities, and their efforts really do show.
“The rewards of their continued hard work will benefit everyone. Those attending weekly sessions can use the new equipment; enjoy a brighter, more relaxed environment; and in the future, an additional evening youth club session - while the local community have a fantastic facility that they can use and be proud of. We have a number of exciting projects coming up over the next few months and we hope everyone can be part of an exciting future at Studley.”
