Line dancing for older generation

Twenty residents from a Warwickshire County Council Care Home have been taking part in a unique form of line dancing.

Residents and staff at Lower Meadow Care Home in Stratford welcomed Wild Bill from Warwick, who taught them to line dance with their hands.

Wild Bill otherwise known as Bill McKenzie started the dance craze nine years ago.  “I adapted traditional line-dancing steps to allow older folk to join in without leaving their armchairs, by mostly using hand instead of foot movements.” he said.

Bill tours residential homes across the country, teaching his routines to war time songs so that people can enjoy a sing-a-long at the same time.

Dawn Bluck, Manager of Lower Meadow for Warwickshire County Council, said:

“Everyone had great fun. We try to offer the residents a wide choice of activities and entertainment, and this was certainly a bit different.”

“It’s a great way for people to get a bit of exercise whilst enjoying musical entertainment,” she added.

Resident Olive Mills said “The music was fantastic.  I remembered all the old songs.”

Her daughter Eileen Bidwell added:  “Moving to Lower Meadow has given mum a new lease of life, she has made lots of friends and loves joining in all the activities.”

Lower Meadow Care Home is part of Warwickshire County Council’s Adult Health and Community Services.
