Netting a career in sports and leisure
Teachers and careers advisors have scored some top tips for their students when it comes to netting a job in the sports and leisure industry.
Eleven staff from schools across Coventry and Warwickshire including Lyng Hall, Cardinal Wiseman and Grace Academy were invited to a professional development day at the Xcel Leisure Centre in Canley (14 October).
It provided an opportunity for PE, Sport and Active Leisure Teachers and Connexions Personal Advisors to learn more about the expanding industry and meet experts working within it. They were also given a tour of the facilities at the new leisure centre as well as a taster of activities.
The aim of the project, organised by Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire, is for teachers and careers staff to take their experiences back to the classroom to give their students an accurate picture of their favoured careers path.
Jenny Stokes from Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire said: “The Sports and Leisure industry is growing, so it is vital that teachers and careers staff have the most up-to-date view of what’s going on and the job opportunities in it .
“They can use their experiences of the day to help enrich the curriculum, particularly with the new Sport and Active Leisure Diploma that will be introduced in to schools and colleges next year”.
