A decade of care for Asian elders
Five care workers from a Warwickshire County Council day centre for older people have all been recognised for 10 years service.
The workers are based at Edward Street Day Centre in Nuneaton providing support for 56 Asian elders.
Ikram Haque, the Centre Manager, was also awarded for long service and has been part of the centre since it was opened nearly eleven years ago.
“I’m very proud to receive this award but it’s made extra special because I’ve received it with five members of staff who have all been dedicated workers.”
“When we first opened we had eight service users. We now provide a service to 56 people. The service has really developed,” he added.
Edward Street provides a service to older people mainly from the Muslim community and offers a whole range of activities and opportunities which include meditation, recitation of Holy Scriptures, crafts and embroidery. Newspapers and television programmes in different languages are also available on a daily basis.
The centre is part of Warwickshire County Council’s Adult Health and Community Services. The long service award recognises commitment by the staff.
Care assistant, Samina Hill, expressed her pride when receiving the award. She said: “I love my work. It’s a pleasure to share in the lives of so many lovely people.”
