Bids open for North Warwickshire community groups

Community groups and voluntary organisations across North Warwickshire are being invited by Warwickshire County Council’s North Warwickshire Area Committee to bid to this year’s Community Development Fund.

A share of £36,000 has been made available by County Councillors of the North Warwickshire Area Committee for one-off projects that address issues of local concern.

Last year 14 local groups received funding including: Polesworth Parochial Church Council,  1st Atherstone Scout Group and Hurley Community Association were just some of the lucky organisations to benefit from the fund.

Organisations must make their bids with the support of their local County Councillor. Applications are welcome from 13 October and must be received by the deadline of 4 December 2009.

Councillor Tilly May, Chair of the North Warwickshire Area Committee, said: "Once again, community groups in North Warwickshire have the opportunity to bid for significant funding to help them get new schemes off the ground, or to pay for items that will benefit local people already using their services.

“I urge them to take advantage of this and to work with their local councillor to put a bid together for a share of the fund. Other groups have already benefited immensely from this."

The fund is run by Warwickshire County Council to help communities, particularly in more deprived parts of the county, address issues of local concern to them.
Once the bids are in, County Councillors in North Warwickshire will pick the successful applications at their Area Committee meeting on 27 January 2010.

Last year, Polesworth Parochial Church Council received match funding towards the restoration of the Abbey Gatehouse at Polesworth Abbey.

1st Atherstone Scout Group received a grant for camping equipment to enable young people to take part in all types of camping expeditions.

Hurley Community Association were awarded a grant for a new boiler for the Village Hall.  The venue hosts a range of activities varying from Mother & Toddler groups to the over 60’s Luncheon Club.
