New Kerbsafe Plus training for local school

Children at Studley St Marys are to become some of the first pupils in Warwickshire to benefit from a new road safety course KerbSafe Plus.

KerbSafe Plus is a new scheme that is aimed at slightly older children following on from the already established KerbSafe which trains Key Stage One children. They will be one of the first schools in the area to undertake this training.

KerbSafe Plus is a practical road safety initiative developed by Warwickshire County Council to help make young children safer when they are out near roads.  It comprises two roadside sessions with volunteer instructors and introduces children to the basic skills they need to become more aware of the potential risks they face.

Once a young child is aware of the dangers on the road, KerbSafe Plus helps them to think about what they can do to keep themselves safe and encourages them to share this knowledge with their parents.

Stan Milewski, Principal Road Safety Officer at the county council, said: “We are delighted that this school is running our new KerbSafe Plus Scheme.

"We have been running a pedestrian training scheme for younger children for some years and there was a demand from schools and parents for a similar scheme for Key stage 2 children.”
