Staff reach final of the Great British Care Awards

Four Warwickshire County Council staff reached the final of this year’s Great British Care Awards and attended a spectacular Gala Evening at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

The Great British Care Awards are organised to celebrate excellence across the care sector.

Vicki Shaw and Rachel Crockett were short-listed in the Care Home Nutrition Award Category for their Warwickshire-wide ‘Focus on Mealtimes’ project. Their work is about making mealtimes for older people in care homes the highlight of their day and improving nutritional care, preventing malnutrition, improving general wellbeing and people’s quality of life.

Rose Griffin, of Park View Care Home, Warwick, was short-listed in the Ancillary Worker Award category. Rose has proved herself to be an excellent and enthusiastic domestic and is described by her colleagues as ‘more like a best friend than a worker to the residents’.

Christine Jenking, of Bracebridge Court Care Home in Atherstone, was short-listed in the Care Home Activity Organiser Award category for her exceptional skills and creativity in getting residents active and involved. Christine’s work ranges from taking residents shopping and running a weekly coffee shop to arts, music, poetry and dance workshops.

Christine Jenking said: “I absolutely love the job. There are so many things that the older people want to do and I do my best to fulfil their needs and make them happy. But I couldn’t do it without the support of my colleagues at the County Council.”

Dr Graeme Betts, Strategic Director of Adult, Health and Community Services at Warwickshire County Council, said: “I would like to congratulate our finalists on their achievements. I am immensely proud of our staff whose hard work and dedication is improving the lives of older people.”
