Warwickshire County Councillor Martin Heatley, Portfolio Holder for Resources will be visiting Stratford-upon-Avon Primary School, one of eight satellite catering units in the county, on Monday (19 October).

Until recently the school had no kitchen so meals were prepared, cooked and transported from another school. The County Caterers recently equipped and reopened the kitchen as a satellite unit and now more than 50% of the menu is prepared on site.

Stratford is one of eight schools with satellite kitchens set up in Warwickshire. They have been made possible with government funding from the Transforming School Meals initiative which aims to improve the school meal experience for students.  With this new ‘oven to table’ provision on site, pupils are experiencing a better quality and service.

Lindsay Higgins, Development Manager for Warwickshire County Caterers said: “The funding we have received from the Government’s Transforming School meals initiative has enabled us to make some positive changes to our services.

“At Stratford Primary School meals have been prepared on site since the start of term. This has already brought about improvements in the dining experience for pupils with take up increasing week on week which is great.”
