Face-lift follows temporary closure

Nuneaton Register Office will temporarily be closing its doors for a few weeks at the end of October so a face-lift of the venue can take place, ultimately providing better facilities and brighter premises.

The last working day of the Register Office, which is situated on Coton Road in Nuneaton, will be Thursday 29th October, with the last Register Office marriage before the refurbishment taking place on 31st October.

It is expected that the refurbishment will take between four and six weeks. The first marriage at the improved venue will be held on 11th December. There will be no other Nuneaton Register Office marriages during the closure, with marriages only taking place in external licensed premises.

Plans have been put in place to minimise disruption to people who want to access Warwickshire County Council’s Registration Services during the temporary closure.

People will be able to register births and deaths at King’s House in Bedworth, within the ‘Warwickshire Direct’ One Stop Shop at North Warwickshire Borough Council in Atherstone, and at the Town Hall in Nuneaton. An appointment system with the Registrars will operate during office hours.

Copy certificates applied for before Thursday 22nd October are guaranteed to be delivered before the temporary closure. People requiring copy certificates in an emergency during the closure can contact the General Register Office on 0845 603 7788.

Councillor Heather Timms, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Customers, Workforce and Governance, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience the temporary closure will cause and will try to minimise this as much as possible.

“But I think people will see a real difference when Nuneaton Register Office re-opens its doors after the refurbishment and will agree that it has been worth it.

“This is an important venue for people living in Nuneaton and the surrounding area, with many choosing to get married here, as well as it being the place where the deaths of loved ones are registered and the birth of new family members as well.”

The refurbished office reception and public areas will all be brightened up, and a private waiting room with more seating will be created. There will also be additional toilet facilities, which will better serve wedding parties at the venue that sometimes number up to 60 guests.

Nuneaton Registration Office can be contacted on 024 76 348944 (births & deaths) or 024 76 348948 (marriages & civil partnerships). During the closure period, calls will be diverted to Nuneaton Town Hall, where Warwickshire Registration Service staff will be able to answer any queries.
