Become part of the learning revolution and enjoy creative writing and walking tours for free - Warwick

Warwickshire County Council is providing free adult learning workshops in the Warwick district for free as part of the ‘Learning Revolution’ Festival.

The month-long campaign aims to celebrate everything that’s great about learning for pleasure and the benefits it brings to individuals, families, businesses and communities.

The County Council’s Heritage Education and Adult Community Learning services have teamed up to provide a series of free sessions across the county that use everything from drama to guided walks to unlock Warwickshire’s history and encourage adults to join in with the friendly and informal learning opportunities that are on offer.

In Warwick on Saturday 7 November from 10am - 4pm there will be a Creative Writing one-day workshop at the County Record Office led by playwright Simon Startin, exploring ways of creating character and narrative inspired by historical documents and objects. Spaces are limited and booking is essential. To book please telephone 01926 412069. (Please bring your own lunch.)

There will also be a Tudor Warwick Walk taking place on Friday 13 November from 1 – 3pm and a Fire of Warwick Walk on Friday 20 November from 2 – 3pm. Discover Warwick’s fascinating Tudor past through the beautiful surviving architecture, and find out how a fire storm nearly wiped it all out! These walks are also free but places need to be booked by calling 01926 412069.

Laura Pye, Head of Heritage Education at Warwickshire County Council, said: “It is proven that informal learning improves individual wellbeing, community cohesion and helps people back to work or further training.

"The Learning Revolution is an excellent chance to meet new people, as well as to learn and try out a really varied menu of friendly workshops packed with history, crafts and skills. The free workshops offer something for everybody!”

Learning Revolution is being led nationally by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) to give adults across England the opportunity to celebrate what they enjoy and others the chance to try something new. The Learning Revolution white paper was published by BIS in March 2009 to open up opportunities and highlight the real benefits of informal adult learning.

Heritage Education will be working in partnership with Adult Community Learning to run workshops in Warwick, Rugby, Alcester and Nuneaton that focus on celebrating and exploring local history.
