Become part of the learning revolution and enjoy creative writing for free in Rugby
Warwickshire County Council is providing adult learning workshops for free as part of the ‘Learning Revolution’ Festival.
The month-long campaign aims to celebrate everything that’s great about learning for pleasure and the benefits it brings to individuals, families, businesses and communities.
The County Council’s Heritage Education and Adult Community Learning services have teamed up to provide a series of free sessions across the county that use everything from drama to guided walks to unlock Warwickshire’s history and encourage adults to join in with the friendly and informal learning opportunities that are on offer.
In Rugby ‘Home Front Heroes: A Creative Writing Workshop’ inspired by the Second World War era takes place at Rugby Library, Little Elborow Street, Rugby, on Tuesday 24th November from 6pm – 8pm.
With writers Jane Commane and Simon Startin, participants will explore six Home Front suitcases packed with Warwickshire Museum handling objects to inspire drama and poetry exercises. Spaces are limited at this workshop and booking is essential. Please call Heritage Education on 01926 412069 to book your place.
Laura Pye, Head of Heritage Education at Warwickshire County Council, said: “It is proven that informal learning improves individual wellbeing, community cohesion and helps people back to work or further training.
"The Learning Revolution is an excellent chance to meet new people, as well as to learn and try out a really varied menu of friendly workshops packed with history, crafts and skills. The free workshops offer something for everybody!”
Learning Revolution is being led nationally by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) to give adults across England the opportunity to celebrate what they enjoy and others the chance to try something new. The Learning Revolution white paper was published by BIS in March 2009 to open up opportunities and highlight the real benefits of informal adult learning.
Heritage Education are working in partnership with Adult Community Learning to run workshops in Warwick, Rugby, Alcester and Nuneaton that focus on celebrating and exploring local history.
