Not in my Neighbourhood Week around Nuneaton and Bedworth

Not in my Neighbourhood Week is taking place from 2 – 6 November.

Warwickshire Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams and Warwickshire County Council’s Community Safety Team will be joining local communities across the county in saying "Not in my Neighbourhood" to crime and disorder.

The national campaign from the Home Office is aimed at highlighting what Criminal Justice Agencies, voluntary groups, charities and local people are doing to make neighbourhoods safer and also to send clear messages that crime and disorder will not be tolerated in their community.

In Bedworth officers from the Safer Neighbourhoods Teams (SNTs) will be getting out and about meeting local people to find out their concerns. Members of the community can also expect to see officers on the street with increased patrols.

Teams will be focusing on giving the right advice in the right locations to make people aware of how they can help reduce crime and disorder. Police Surgeries will be held for members of the community to attend and discuss any local issues of concern. The details of these are as follows:

Bedworth East Safer Neighbourhoods Team will be targeting their patrols around bonfire night as well as utilising Blue-tooth technology at Ash Green School and Nicholas Chamberlaine School gates to encourage young people to act responsibly with fireworks. Bluetooth enables messages to be sent automatically to mobile phones in a certain area. This is an effective way of communicating with young people, many of whom now carry a mobile phone.

Nuneaton South, East and Town Centre SNT will have a visible presence during Halloween and Bonfire Night to reduce anti social behaviour. This will involve interaction with local schools and business about fireworks and eggs sales.

Nuneaton West SNT will be continuing their work on multi agency initiative to tackle ASB in the Haunchwood Road area of Barpool. This is an ongoing campaign but will be further highlighted during Not in my Neighbourhood Week by officers undertaking high visibility foot patrols.

Nuneaton North SNT will be delivering leaflets in their area to inform people about what they can do to prevent burglaries and vehicle crime.

The team will also be conducting additional patrols in the area of Kingswood Gardens to reduce antisocial behaviour. Officers will continue to identify offenders and use a multi agency approach to tackle the issue which can include action such as issuing parenting orders.

Nuneaton Central SNT will be continuing their work on the priorities that the community have set. This includes concern that people are using the carpark next to the Queens Court complex to take and sell drugs, through out the evening. The team will be conducting both high visability and non uniformed patrols, gathering intelligence from the local community and liaising with owners of the car park to make such activities more difficult.

The teams other priority is around drug use and antisocial behaviour including vehicles in Marlborough Park.

Work to address this issue is ongoing and includes:

· installing a dome hawk camera, meeting with local residents to confirm exact times and further information
  about vehicles.

· Using anti social behaviour legislation to stop vehicles and youths behaving in a anti social manner.
Numbers of vehicle warnings and seizure’s to be published.

· Stop searching persons in the area suspected of dealing/using drugs.

· Conducting further meetings with partner agencies about other interventions into dealing with youth problems
in the area and also further meetings with local residents.

Warwickshire Police Head of Community Safety, David Whitehouse said: "This week of activities is really important to highlight what we and our partners are doing day in, day out to protect communities in Warwickshire. We always encourage the public to tell us their concerns so that we can address them. Not in my Neighbourhood Week is an ideal opportunity to highlight the important role the public play in combatting crime."

Councillor Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire’s Portfolio Holder for Community Protection added: “Working together with residents and partners helps us to tackle issues like crime, anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and alcohol and drugs misuse at local levels.

“These events provide the perfect opportunity for people to get an insight in to the fantastic work going on to ensure communities are safe. In addition they offer the chance for residents to find out more about getting involved and helping out.”
