Getting ‘bright at the museum’

Teachers and careers staff will be getting fresh inspiration about the heritage and culture industry thanks to Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire.

The group from a number of schools in Coventry has been invited to a professional development day at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum on Friday 6 November, where they will hear about the current state of the industry, marketing, and employment opportunities for young people.

Museum professionals such as conservators, curators, archaeologists, stores/collections staff, music/video recording engineers and education/inclusion staff will be on hand to answer any questions.

Jenny Stokes from Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire has organised the day and said: “The idea of the development day is to provide teachers and careers staff with an accurate picture of this ever-changing industry to help them enrich the curriculum back in the classroom.

“Having this inside knowledge has real benefits for students who may be thinking about a career in the Heritage and Culture sector in the future, helping them understand the steps they may have to take to make this happen.”

Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire is run by CSWP Ltd, a membership of organisations including Warwickshire County Council, Coventry City Council and the Learning & Skills Council among others.

There is a Connexions office in every secondary school and Further Education College across the county, and also at Connexions One Stop Shops in town centre offices. To find the nearest to you, call 024 76 607900.
