Conference seeks improved NEET support

Helping to improve support available for young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) in Coventry and Warwickshire is the aim of a special conference later this month.

Organised by Warwickshire Children and Voluntary Youth Services (WCVYS), it’s open to young people who are or have been classed as NEET and the organisations working with them. It will be held at the Wolston Leisure and Community Centre near Rugby Friday 20 November from 9.45am to 1.45pm.

The conference aims to find the views and experiences of those who are not in education, employment or training, promote integrated support and to share good practice amongst professionals working with young people.

Workshops will cover ways of supporting young parents who are NEET, explore partnership working, look at alternative ways to encourage young people in to education or training, and identify any issues facing those seeking employment.

A number of partners are involved in the event including Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire, the 14 to 19 team, Warwickshire County Council’s Youth and Community Service, Warwickshire Association of Youth Clubs and Warwickshire Clubs for Young People.

Helen Smith, Development Worker for Warwickshire Children and Voluntary Youth Services, said: “It is especially important in these recessionary times that young people take advantage of the services available to help them further their career prospects after leaving compulsory education.

“We would encourage people to share their views at the conference so we can provide more targeted services across Coventry and Warwickshire.”

If young people and professionals wish to attend the conference, please call Helen Smith in advance on 01926 413611 or email helensmith@warwickshire.gov.uk.
