Jaguar hospice schools challenge launch
Raising funds for the Mary Ann Evans Hospice in Nuneaton will provide the focus for an exciting Inter Schools Enterprise Challenge due to be launched today.
The challenge, which is being co-ordinated by the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership, a part of Warwickshire County Council, is being sponsored by Jaguar.
The company has donated £50 to each school as a start up fund. The students will then have 12 weeks to turn this initial float into as much money as possible to help the Hospice with its running costs.
It costs thousands of pounds each year to run the Hospice which provides day care and hospice at home to North Warwickshire residents suffering from life limiting illnesses.
Five secondary schools from Nuneaton and North Warwickshire will each be entering a team of eight Year 10 students into the challenge.
The students will need to use their skills of innovation and creativity, financial capability and business and economic understanding to come up with enterprising ideas within school to raise money.
Student teams from Higham Lane, George Eliot, Etone, St Thomas More and Queen Elizabeth Schools will be coming together for the launch of the challenge at Higham Lane School and Business and Enterprise College on the 17th November at 10am as part of National Enterprise Week.
The Mayor of North Warwickshire will be in attendance along with representatives from Jaguar and the Mary Ann Evans Hospice.
The challenge will culminate in March 2010, when the student teams will present their ideas and results to a judging panel. The most enterprising team will be presented with the Jaguar Leaper Trophy with a further prize awarded to the highest fundraising school.
Les Ratcliffe, Community Relations Manager for Jaguar Cars, said: “Jaguar is proud to be associated with the Mary Ann Evans Hospice Schools Challenge for the 3rd year running. We fully support the students in their endeavour to be enterprising whilst at the same time raising much needed funds for the Hospice.”
