Theatrical approach to PSHE in Bedworth

Helping young people understand the importance of Personal, Social and Health education is the aim of a theatrical performance at schools in Bedworth.

Warwickshire’s Respect Yourself Campaign and Warwickshire County Council’s Extended Service’s have been working with theatre education company Loudmouth Education to develop interactive, age-appropriate sessions for primary and secondary school pupils.

There are two shows on offer – ‘My mate fancies you’ aimed at 10 to 12-year-olds, which will cover puberty, growing up and transitions; and ‘Trust Me’ aimed at teenagers, covering STIs, contraception and unplanned pregnancies.

Twenty performances are set to take place in Extended Services’ Bedworth cluster of schools in the coming months.

Suzanne Wilkinson, Warwickshire County Council’s Extended Services Cluster Coordinator for Bedworth), said: “We’re very pleased to be working with the Respect Yourself Campaign and Loudmouth Education in introducing this very exciting and interactive element of the PSHE programme to schools.”

Amy Danahay, Warwickshire’s Respect Yourself Campaign Manager, said: “It is really important for young people to learn about relationships and health from an early age, ensuring they can make informed decisions later in life.

“It will also raise awareness of the variety of services and support available to young people if they have any concerns or questions relating to personal, social or health issues.”
