Residents urged ‘secure your sheds’

In response to a recent spate of shed fire incidents in North Warwickshire the borough’s Community Safety Partnership are holding a community event next week.

Representatives from the county council’s Fire and Rescue Service and Community Safety Team, Warwickshire Police and North Warwickshire Borough Council will set up a temporary ‘safety station’ outside The Co-op in New Arley on Thursday 26 November.

The stand will be open all day for residents to drop by and pick up some advice and order safety equipment to help them secure their homes and property against similar incidents.

The security equipment available for the home and garden will include shed alarms and other intruder deterrents such as SmartWater, spiked adhesive strips which can be applied to garden fences and walls to make it difficult for intruders to gain access to property.

Warwickshire County Councillor Richard Hobbs, the county’s portfolio holder for community protection said: “This event will enable the Community Safety Partnership to deliver some positive safety messages to residents and demonstrate how different services are working together to increase public safety in the area.

“The group has pulled together some excellent resources to offer practical help to members of the community to protect their property and I hope lots of people will come to visit the stand.”

Andy Bates from the Fire and Rescue Service’s Area Risk Team said: “We hope to make visitors to our stand aware of some small steps they can take to secure their homes and to remind them to be vigilant about home safety by reporting any suspicious activity to the police.”
