Celebrating oral history project’s success
Young and older people will join together in celebrating the successful conclusion to an inter-generational project in Keresley.
‘New Neighbours: Crossing the Divide’ was an oral history project started two years ago by Nuneaton & Bedworth Neighbourhood Watch Association in partnership with Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme, and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The project has built relationships between different age groups by bringing together younger and older members of the community to discuss life in the past and today, focusing on ideas of neighbourliness.
The interviews were digitally recorded, and will be presented to the County Record Office, where they will be archived, and shared with the local community through Warwickshire Library Service.
Participants, staff and supporters of the project will be showcasing their work at a celebration event at the Keresley Village Community Centre on Monday 7 December, between 12pm and 3pm.
David Allton, Project Leader of New Neighbours: Crossing The Divide, said: “We first introduced this project in 2007 after some older residents felt that a once close-knit community in Keresley had changed.
“So we invited young and older people to take part in this project to find out why it was a great community in the past and why it still is a great place to live today.
“We’ve had some fantastic support from everyone involved and have heard some great interviews, which have helped to form good relationships that have challenged stereotypes and close the generation gap. I would like to thank everyone who took part.”
