Discover ‘Christmas Past’ at St John’s House Museum

Ever wanted to meet a stern Victorian Schoolmaster, or find out what life was like in the kitchen of a wealthy household at Christmas more than a hundred years ago?

Thanks to Warwickshire County Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund, you can find out on Saturday 5th December 2009 at St John’s House Museum, where there will also be a free Jewellery-making workshop and free family craft activities.

Working in partnership with the Heritage Lottery Funded-project ‘Outside the Box’, Warwickshire County Council’s Heritage Education Service and the Warwickshire County Record Office will be hosting this special Christmas-themed experience at St John’s House Museum. Come and celebrate our Victorian heritage and discover characters from the Outside the Box project.

Between 10.00am - 12.00pm & 1.00pm - 5.00pm you can join the school teacher for a Christmas themed lesson and talk to the cook in the kitchen making plum pudding. She might let you stir the pudding mixture!

From 10.30am - 12.30pm families are invited to have a go at some of the craft activities run by Heritage Education throughout the school holidays. All our activities for families and children are part of the Heritage Education and Warwickshire County Record Office Children’s University module.

Adults and Children aged 8 and over can also take part in a Jewellery Making taster session between 2 – 4pm on the day, where they can learn how to make inexpensive and attractive gifts for friends and family, a great idea for Christmas!
