Terrence Higgins Trust joins forces with Warwickshire County Council for World AIDS Day

HIV and sexual health charity, Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) and Warwickshire County Council are calling for people in the region to get involved in World AIDS Day (December 1) this year by displaying a poster or wearing a red ribbon to raise awareness.

World AIDS Day, which has been running every December since 1988, is dedicated to raising awareness of the condition. In the UK alone, more than 80,000 people are living with HIV and over 7,000 are diagnosed every year.

Staff and volunteers from THT will be out in the region raising awareness of HIV by giving out red ribbons as well as giving information on the support services available including a new section on the Warwickshire County Council website.

Kim Harlock, Head of Strategic Commissioning for Adult, Health and Community Services at Warwickshire County Council, said: “We are proud to be working with the Terrence Higgins Trust and we encourage Warwickshire residents to show their support on World Aids Day. Through our dedicated AIDS support grant we are investing in services to help people with the virus and their carers to get the support they need to improve their quality of life.”
Jane Morel, Regional Manager for Terrence Higgins Trust in Warwickshire said “World AIDS Day is one of the most important events in the calendar. Currently in the UK one in four people with HIV don’t know they have it, so it’s vital that we continue to raise awareness. We hope local people will get involved in some way, either by displaying a poster, making a donation, or just wearing a red ribbon."
