Making Queens Road, Nuneaton a safer place
As part of Warwickshire County Council’s continual improvement of the county’s roads, the road safety engineering team is looking to improve Queens Road in Nuneaton which has been identified as having a significant history of personal injury crashes.
The team is currently going out for consultation on a set of engineering proposals designed to address the type of crashes occurring.
This busy road has a significant history of personal injury collisions resulting in 55 crashes between April 2003 and February 2008, resulting in 59 casualties, 5 of which resulted in fatal or serious injury.
The proposed measures include:
a raised table at the junction with Edward Street.
2 raised flat top humps at the existing pedestrian crossing points.
the introduction of a 20mph zone and associated entry treatments.
The provision of street parking and street scene improvements.
The County Council is currently seeking the public’s views on its proposals, and will hold an exhibition on Friday 11th December 2009 between 10.30am and 6.30pm at the Edward Street Day Centre, 120 Edward Street, Nuneaton.
County Councillor, Bob Hicks said “I am delighted to see that the Road Safety Engineering team have investigated the road and I look forward to seeing a big improvement in the reduction of accidents along Queens Road.
Councillor Alan Cockburn, portfolio holder for the environment, added “This road has been a local concern for some time and the measures installed can only improve the environment for the people who use this road on a daily basis.”
Warwickshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit, which is undertaking the works, will continue to monitor the scheme after implementation. The Road Safety Unit’s main aim is to reduce the number of people killed and injured on Warwickshire’s Roads.
