Going crackers for Christmas lunch

Warwickshire County Council cooks start dishing up seasonal treats with all the trimmings at Warwickshire primary schools this week.

The County Caterers will have their work cut out preparing and serving 30 000 traditional lunches with a side order of Christmas cheer to pupils before the end of term.
The service has pledged to source local and British food where possible for all its menus. This meal is no exception and 40 000 slices of Lincolnshire turkey, 8120kg of British potatoes and 700kg of chipolata sausages and lots of vegetables will be going from kitchen to plate.

The County Caterers are celebrating a great year; they have opened a number of new school kitchens, sourced more regional produce than ever before and were presented with a Good Egg in the summer for switching to the use of free range or organic eggs in all their recipes.

Warwickshire County Councillor Martin Heatley, portfolio holder for resources said: “I’m sure the pupils will all enjoy their Christmas feast. Our County Caterers provide an excellent service to the county’s young people with their nutritious and delicious meals.

"Their menus are always fresh and interesting and a lot of effort goes into offering an educational slant wherever they can.”
