New activity club encourages young people to ‘Excel’

A free, fun activity club encouraging children to be more active starts in Nuneaton this week.

The Excel club will give 7 to 13-year-olds the chance to take part in exciting indoor activities over a 10-week period.

It will be led by Nuneaton Town Football Club coaches and special guests, and will be supported by NHS Warwickshire, Warwickshire County Council’s Nuneaton and Bedworth Extended Services, and the North Warwickshire School Sports Partnership.

A total of ten sessions will be available at Alderman Smith School on Radnor Drive, Nuneaton, every Thursday from 14 January between 4.00pm and 5.00pm, and are designed to help children who are struggling with their weight boost self-esteem and fitness levels.

Tracey Kahrman from NHS Warwickshire’s public health team is working on the project. She said: “Today we all feel we lead hectic lives but it is easier than ever before not to do enough physical exercise.

“Our bodies are happiest when they are kept moving and regular exercise can help reduce stress, improve concentration and keep us fit and healthy. The Excel club is a fun way for children to improve their health and fitness.”

Food and nutrition experts will also be on hand during the activities if parents have any questions.
