Jewellery Poses “Allsorts” of Danger
Potentially dangerous jewellery resembling Liquorice Allsorts sweets has been seized and destroyed by Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service.
The range of jewellery is so similar to the liquorice sweets that Trading Standards Officers are concerned that they pose a choking hazard to young children.
Over 160 items including, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, cufflinks and key-rings were seized from the UK supplier. Legislation in the UK prevents the sale of articles that resemble food and potentially could cause harm to young children if sucked or swallowed. The jewellery also failed EU Toy Safety legislation.
A product recall has been undertaken but Warwickshire Trading Standards are asking businesses to check their shelves and remove any remaining jewellery from sale.
Consumers are advised to return jewellery to the retailer they purchased from for a full refund. There have been no reported incidents involving the jewellery in the UK.
