Make every day in 2010 a book sharing day
Babies and children under five are being given an added incentive to make 2010 a year of book sharing at all Warwickshire County Council libraries.
The popular Bookstart Book Crawl scheme is available for free to all children under five in Warwickshire and awards stickers to children each time they borrow books from the library. After collecting four stickers, children receive one of 20 certificates designed by well known children’s illustrators.
And as an added incentive to get started in 2010, parents will get the chance to win special Bookstart bear prizes for their children. All they need to do is fill out a slip to say why their child or baby loves books and they will be entered in a free draw.
Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Housing, said: “You are never too young to join the library and membership is free. The Book Crawl scheme gives children a great start in life and we are pleased to be working with children and families to inspire an enjoyment of books.”
Book Crawl is an initiative devised by Booktrust, an independent national charity, which promotes reading and Warwickshire County Council has been involved in the scheme since 1996.
Children taking part in Book Crawl need to be a member of the library and membership is free. To join, simply visit your local library and take along proof of your current address.
