Another chance to help transform young people’s lives
Potential volunteers interested in helping turn the lives of young people around in Nuneaton are being invited to an information evening later this month.
Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme is working with national charity Youth at Risk to help over 200 of the ‘most alienated and disengaged young people’ in the town recognise and fulfil their potential.
The Community Transformation Programme provides young people with the skills to help improve their future prospects – and in turn that of their communities – through a series of training and coaching activities.
The first of which is a residential in Oxfordshire focussing on essential skills such as increasing self-esteem, teamwork and increasing confidence.
Positive about Young People is looking for practitioners already working with young people and members of the business or local community to volunteer their time either before or during the trip later this year.
Those interested in taking part are invited to a taster session at Kings House, Kings Street, Bedworth on Wednesday 20 January (5.30pm to 6.30pm), Thursday 21 January (2pm to 3pm) or Tuesday 26 January (5.30pm to 6.30pm) to find out more about the programme and the residential.
Parneet Kang, Development Manager for Early Intervention/Prevention at Positive about Young People, said: “Volunteers are key to making this project a success, so we’re looking for people who friendly, flexible, team players and above all committed to helping turn around the lives of young people.
“They will receive all the necessary training and it will be a great opportunity to make a difference, while learning valuable skills that can be used in everyday life.”
All successful volunteers will be required to undertake a CRB check with Warwickshire County Council.
If you are interested in attending or would like further information please contact Parneet Kang at Positive about Young People on 02476 754178 as soon as possible.
