Primary pupils get a breakfast boost
Pupils at Camp Hill Primary School in Nuneaton will be kick-starting the day with a healthy breakfast when they celebrate Farmhouse Breakfast Week from 25-29 January.
Farmhouse Breakfast Week is an annual campaign that emphasises the importance of starting the day off with a healthy breakfast to be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet and active lifestyle.
‘Breakfast Benefits’ is the theme of this year’s celebration, and to promote this Warwickshire’s County Caterers have devised a special Farmhouse Breakfast Week menu to be served in the county’s schools as part of its healthy meals drive.
County Caterers will be serving dishes including eggy bread muffins, bacon baps, fruity bread, english breakfast muffins and cereal in participating primary schools.
Many nutritionists consider breakfast to be the most important meal of the day and research suggests that a healthy, balanced breakfast can boost brain power by aiding concentration and mental performance. Breakfast is also proved to positively influence moods and can even help to with weight management.
Lindsay Higgins of Warwickshire County Council’s caterers said: “It’s well known that a balanced breakfast provides a great start to the school day so we will be using the week to highlight the importance of a good healthy meal to get you going in the morning.”
Councillor Martin Heatley, the county’s resources portfolio holder added: “This is another great scheme taken on by our school caterers. It supports their healthy eating agenda by getting important messages to children about the benefits of eating regular, nourishing and balanced meals.”
The Farmhouse Breakfast Week campaign is a national promotion put together by the Home-Grown Cereals Authority, which aims to highlight the importance of breakfast and the range and quality of regional breakfast produce available in the UK.
