County Council cash comes in for Haiti
Warwickshire County Council staff have counted the cash following the dress down day to raise money for earthquake-stricken Haiti.
Money is still coming in but organisers have said that the figure has topped £3,000 after staff across the council gave money for the right to wear casual clothes with money being donated to the Disasters and Earthquake Committee Fund which has been set up to co-ordinate fundraising on behalf of Haiti.
County council employees regularly raise money for charities, with dressing down at the end of a week being one of the commonest means of doing so, but this is the first time that an effort has been co-ordinated across all the directorates in the county council.
Jim Graham, Chief Executive of Warwickshire County Council, said: “I’m very impressed with the figure and with staff’s commitment to raising money. Contributions like this will make a great difference to the relief work that Haiti will need.”
One of the staff representatives who put the idea out to all staff was Jack Linstead. He said: “It is not uncommon for various members of staff to be co-ordinating fund-raising events, beyond those that take place on major days such as Comic Relief or Children in Need, but this tends to happen within directorates.
"Here, staff from across the council were all involved and we’ve managed to raise a fantastic amount of money.”
