Prime Minister honours most improved school

A Nuneaton headteacher flew the flag for Warwickshire at a special Downing Street reception to honour the performance of selected British schools.

Sally Kaminski-Gaze from All Saints CofE Primary School and Nursery attended the event, along with headteachers from approximately 150 schools from around the country, who had all been recognised for raising education standards and improving life chances for pupils.

The Prime Minister Gordon Brown, his wife Sarah, cabinet member Ed Balls and a number of senior civil servants were present at the reception and they all took time to meet each of the school representatives.

At the reception, Gordon Brown delivered an address about giving every child the chance to be the best they can be, and congratulated the school representatives on their individual school achievements. He stressed the importance of the thousands of daily kindnesses shown by headteachers and teachers which make such a difference to young people’s lives.

Marion Davis Strategic Director for Children Young People and Families at Warwickshire County Council said: “I am delighted for Sally and her team. It is such a joy for them to receive this recognition for all the effort they have put in to providing a good school experience for their pupils. She has worked tirelessly to make improvements and risen to many challenges - the school truly deserves this honour.”

“The opportunity to visit Downing Street and meet the Prime Minister truly was an experience of a lifetime.” said Mrs Kaminski-Gaze. She continued: “As part of the visit we were taken on a tour of number 10 and the feeling of history was overwhelming – I had to keep pinching myself to make sure I was really there.

“I feel extremely honoured that All Saints has been recognised in this way, and to be one of a small selection of school representatives celebrated for making school improvements.

“Through ongoing reviews of our school processes and rigorous monitoring All Saints has seen standards of education rise and pupil’s progress improve. The senior leadership team is strong and we work closely with school staff and our parents to ensure all needs are met.

“Recently we have begun to work on encouraging community cohesion by developing links with local residents, sharing good practice with other schools, and introducing a range of out of school activities. All of this contributes to making the school a great place for pupils to learn and grow.

“We wouldn’t be where we are today without the hard work and contributions of everyone involved with the school."
